Bannack State Park
Makoshika State Park
Thompson Falls State Park
The state's premier ghost town, Bannack State Park gives visitors a glimpse of Montana's colorful frontier past. A walk down the deserted streets of Bannack evokes a feeling of the realities faced in the 'Old West.' Bannack is the best preserved of all Montana ghost towns -- being preserved rather than restored, protected rather than exploited.
Makoshika State Park, in Glendive, is Montana's largest state park. The park's more than 11,400 acres of stunning badland formations are studded with the fossil remains of dinosaurs such as tyrannosaurus rex and triceratops.
Thompson Falls State Park's shaded, quiet campground is on the Clark Fork River near the town of Thompson Falls in the beautiful Clark Fork Valley. The park provides excellent fishing and boating on the Clark Fork River and Noxon Reservoir. It is also a nice place to walk, bird watch, and relax. Kids can fish for trout in the fishpond, and a riverside trail provides river access.
